Mini Cruises to Egypt

Since ancient times Cyprus has been known as the Gateway to the Middle East, given its location in the Mediterranean. As a result one of the most popular things to do when visiting Cyprus is a two day mini cruise to Egypt. It has been proven that most people, at some point in their lives, want to visit Egypt, however not necessarily for a two week holiday. The cruise enables you to get a taste of the country and see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Pyramids.

Begin in ancient Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Make your way through the city, parts of which are very modern, with high-rised, five star hotels, and yet see the contrast as you drive past some of the locals still using their horse and carts along the side of a busy motorway. Visit the Cairo Museum where there is an opportunity to see the most famous Egyptian artefact of all, the mask of Tutankhamun.

Cross over the one and only River Nile and make your way to the Giza Plateau. The contrast between ancient and modern will take your breath away as you pull off the main road on to the sands. You have gone back in time, surrounded by camels; you are at the Pyramids, the Land of the Pharaohs. No picture could possibly do the Pyramids and Sphinx justice, you will stand there in awe as you get used to the magnitude of these exquisite structures. Dating back to 4000BC, you will be wondering how it was possible, the number of perfectly made stone block, some the size of small houses.

Get the opportunity to mingle with the locals, haggling in the hustle and bustle of the bazaars. Bartering is a must, and the locals will expect nothing less, as prices have be fixed with this in mind. The Cyprus pound is strong, and is accepted, so there is no need exchange into Egyptian currency.

It is now also possible to do Egypt by air rather than cruise. The main places visited are the same. The main differences are that it is just 45minutes flight from Cyprus, there is no sailing or need to pack, and doesn't take up so much of your holiday.
