Cyprus with its mountainous landscapes, cobbly paths, uneven pavements planted with trees does not immediately sound like a wheelchair friendly holiday destination.
However the most towns in Cyprus are flat and most places are easily accessible with a wheelchair. In Lefkosia (Nicosia), quite a number of roads have ramps as well as certain entertainment places.
Also there are several organisations, companies and people who specialise in holidays for the disabled, renting equipment, providing airport transfers and excursions in specially adapted transfer vehicles, disabled friendly accommodation and whatever care you may need during your holiday in Cyprus.

In Cyprus there are many wheelchair friendly self catering bungalows, single storey villas and ground floor apartments to choose from, with good accessibility for wheelchairs, slopes, ramps, wide doorways and specially adapted kitchen and bathroom facilities. Family-sized farmhouses, cottages and condos or apartments not on the ground floor can also be wheelchair friendly (with lift access or ground floor en-suite bedrooms), as well as provide suitable accommodation for other family members. All disabled holiday home budgets are catered for with a huge selection of wheelchair friendly accommodation available; from bed and breakfasts to luxury penthouse apartments, many having their own pools and some of which have direct access on to a beach. All the usual attributes of a sunshine holiday can be enjoyed from the comfort of our wheelchair friendly holiday homes, including accessibility to beaches and opportunities for sightseeing, shopping and dining out.

A number of facilities are available to the handicapped person wishing to visit Cyprus. Hotels in all parts of the island have a comprehensive range of facilities, meeting the requirements of disabled persons. Since each hotel offers different facilities, it is advisable to contact the hotels directly in order to ascertain that they have the right facilities for a particular disability. Hotels offering facilities for the disabled can be found in the Cyprus Tourism Organisation's annual "Guide to hotels, Travel Agencies and other Tourist Establishments". The symbols appearing under the name of each hotel correspond to the facilities offered by the hotel.
Upon arrival at, and departure from the Larnaka and Pafos International Airports special truck-lifts are available to help disabled people to embark of disembark from the aircraft. Both airports provide wheelchairs and special washrooms have been constructed to facilitate the disabled.
The use of International stickers for the disabled is legally enforced in Cyprus and stickers can be obtained from the Pancyprian Organisation for Disabled Persons, in Lefkosia (Nicosia).
